Missouri Attorney General Andrew Bailey tore into New York Attorney General Letitia James this week for moving to seize former President Donald J. Trump’s assets.
Bailey appeared on ‘Fox & Friends First’ [Friday morning] to discuss the latest Trump civil case in New York City and why he believes there is no legal justification for seizing his assets.
“This is a gross miscarriage of justice. Letitia James is masquerading as a competent attorney. There is no reference to case law, and no legal authority for what she is doing.
“This was a civil fraud trial and the claim was banks gave loans to President Trump based on misrepresentation,” Bailey began.
“Letitia James is not going after the banks for providing those loans. President Trump is a brilliant businessman and made tons of money for these banks, and every investor and Letitia James hates that and his success,” he added.
As the deadline for posting $464 million in his state civil fraud case drew near, Donald Trump launched an indirect attack on James.
Newsweek had reported [earlier] that James can’t begin taking his belongings until Monday unless the former president posts a bond or pays the entire amount due.
Judge Arthur Engoron of New York determined that to get better terms from lenders and insurers, Trump and a few of his business associates had falsely inflated the value of their assets.
Engoron issued an order in February requiring the former president to pay approximately $355 million in interest and penalties for fraud.
This brings the payment total above $464 million. Trump will appeal the decision and has consistently denied any misconduct.
Early Friday morning, the former president attacked James and Engoron and lashed out at the “crazy” award in a post on his Truth Social platform.
Trump wrote: “THE NEW YORK A.G. USED A STATUTE TO GO AFTER ME THAT HAS NEVER BEEN USED BEFORE, NOT ONCE, FOR SUCH A PURPOSE. IT, IN AND OF ITSELF, IS SOOO UNCONSTITUTIONAL AND UNFAIR.
“UNDER THIS STATUTE, I GET NO JURY AND HAVE NO RIGHTS. All DECISIONS AND RIGHTS ARE GIVEN TO, IN THIS CASE, A CORRUPT, TRUMP HATING JUDGE, WHO CAME UP WITH A CRAZY, OUT OF THIN AIR AWARD, IN ORDER TO DAMAGE ME POLITICALLY, AND NOT ALLOW ME TO USE ANY OF THE LARGE AMOUNT OF CASH I HAVE BUILT UP OVER THE YEARS, THROUGH HARD WORK, INSIGHT, INSTINCT, AND DILIGENCE, ON MY POLITICAL CAMPAIGN FOR PRESIDENT.”
Trump added: “THAT IS JUST WHAT CROOKED JOE BIDEN WANTED THIS POLITICAL HACK, COUPLED WITH A CORRUPT AND RACIST ATTORNEY GENERAL, TO DO. I DID NOTHING WRONG! THIS IS SIMPLY A “TAKING.
“MUCH LIKE WHAT IS DONE IN COMMUNIST COUNTRIES, AND WILL LEAVE AN IRREPARABLE STAIN ON NEW YORK STATE AND ITS JUDICIAL SYSTEM.
IT IS TOTALLY UNCONSTITUTIONAL, INCLUDING THE HARSH GAG ORDER IMPOSED. THE STATUTE OF LIMITATIONS WAS ALREADY RULED ON, FOR ME!”
Trump encountered “insurmountable difficulties” in his attempt to raise the bond, according to a statement from his legal team.
If he can’t come up with a solution by the end of [this] weekend, his properties—including Trump Tower and several golf courses—may be taken.
Newsweek had previously examined an attorney general’s office document that listed Trump’s properties as having “fraudulent” and “misleading” values.
The following [properties] are potentially subject to seizure:

During an interview back in April on ABC News, NY AG James said that she has no problem going after Trump’s property.
“If he does not have funds to pay off the judgment, then we will seek judgment enforcement mechanisms in court, and we will ask the judge to seize his assets,” James said at the time. ##
