We are deeply troubled by the recent unauthorized clearcutting of trees at the site of the proposed 900 North Broadway market-rate senior housing building.
On Monday, April 1st, many residents were startled awake by the sounds of chainsaws and heavy machinery as clearcutting commenced without permits or site plan approval.
Despite the issuance of a ‘Stop Work Order,’ the contractor responsible for this clearcutting blatantly disregarded the directive and continued operations the following day, flouting our city ordinances and furthering concerns about environmental impact and community well-being.
As concerned neighbors and taxpayers, we demand transparency and accountability from our city officials. The actions of the contractor and property owner are unacceptable and do not reflect the values of our community.
We call on our elected representatives to initiate a thorough investigation into this matter and hold those responsible fully accountable for their actions.
Furthermore, we urge our city leaders to address the valid concerns raised by residents regarding this proposed project.
Traffic studies, parking requirements, and environmental impact assessments must be conducted with utmost diligence to ensure the well-being of our neighborhood and its residents.
The John P. O’Leary Northwest Yonkers Republican Club has long emphasized the need for effective governance that prioritizes the needs of our citizens over political ambitions and special interests.
We stand united in our demand for transparency, adherence to city ordinances, and responsible development practices.
Together, let us hold our elected officials accountable and work towards a future where the voices and concerns of Northwest Yonkers residents are heard and respected.
